THE AURA OF
ORIGINS / ALBUQUERQUE
Long before Albuquerque became the city it is today, the area surrounding West Old Town and the Rio Grande was where many of the region's earliest communities grew and connected. Today, this historic area remains one of Albuquerque's most treasured neighborhoods, known for its rich cultural heritage, unique architecture, and strong sense of community.
The Aura of Origins / Albuquerque segment of the Rail Trail will build on that legacy by creating safer walking and biking connections between Old Town, the BioPark, the Bosque Trail, and surrounding neighborhoods while respecting the history and character that make this area unique.
Project Status
The Aura of Origins / Albuquerque segment is currently in the planning and community engagement phase.
The City is working with residents, businesses, property owners, and neighborhood organizations to gather feedback before final design begins.
Current priorities include:
Connecting the Bosque Trail, BioPark, and Old Town
Improving walking and bicycling safety
Preserving neighborhood character
Incorporating landscaping and privacy features
Designing a trail that reflects the history of West Old Town
Construction has not yet begun.

Over the next several phases, work is anticipated to include:
Community engagement and design refinement
Hollywood Alley improvements
BioPark sidewalk improvements
Continued design and engineering
The Rail Trail is being built one segment at a time, allowing each neighborhood to help shape the project before construction begins.
