THE AURA OF
SAWMILL
Stretching from Sawmill Market to Tiguex Park, the Sawmill segment sets the tone for what’s to come. This stretch features sculptural archways inspired by the area’s industrial past, LED surface and overhead lighting, benches, bike racks, and emergency call boxes—creating a safe, well-lit corridor that connects people, neighborhoods, and stories.
At Mountain Road and 19th Street, a new roundabout improves traffic flow and pedestrian safety, strengthening the connection between the Sawmill District, Old Town, and the trailhead.
Once the center of New Mexico’s logging and manufacturing industry, the historic Sawmill District now stands as a model of reinvention. The Rail Trail builds on this legacy, transforming former railways into a vibrant public space that celebrates Albuquerque’s creative spirit through art, storytelling, and design.
This is where connection takes shape.
